Tilkut as the name itself explains til + kut, meaning til or sesame seed or alsi is pounded during the process of making tilkut. Jaggery or sugar is mixed to give it a sweet taste.
Tilkut is a soft, delicate and rounded light sweet vegetarian item which one can get easily at Gaya, the birth place of this delicious item. Gaya as one may recall is famous for many things – Bodh Gaya, Vishnu pad temple and a place for doing shraadh during pitra – paksh besides items like anarsa, khaja and lye.
